| 4th - 7th Sept | The Scottish Flute Trio and Joji Hirota Concerts Detail : 4th - 7th Sept THE WATERFALL OF TIME CD OUT NOW ON SEVEN THINGS East meets West as Japanese master percussionist and Shakuhachi (bamboo flute) player, Joji Hirota, joins the Scottish Flute Trio to perform his Waterfall Of Time Suite, which was commissioned by the trio in 2003. “Through this piece I wanted to express the various forms of water, especially within nature. By blending the sounds of the flutes and Japanese percussion, the music can represent the delicate, subtle and elegant,as well as the more spectacular and dynamic nature of water. From the smallest dewdrop to the greatest waterfall, all life comes from water and back again. The Earth is a water planet.” Joji Hirota To celebrate the release of this brand new recording, The Scottish Flute Trio with Joji Hirota will be performing the suite at the following venues: SAT 4TH SEPT 2010 HOSPITALFIELD ARTS CENTRE, ARBROATH 8.00PM, £8 (£4) MON 6TH SEPT 2010 TRAVERSE THEATRE BAR, EDINBURGH 7.30PM, FREE ENTRY TUE 7TH SEPT 2010 TRONGATE, 103 ENTRANCE GLASGOW 1.05PM, FREE ENTRY Lunchtime performance “Hirota’s music spans the globe effortlessly, with impressionist Western harmonies on the flutes sitting comfortably beside his own Eastern percussion and bamboo flute playing...Hirota’s inspiration was the dynamic of water, from the dewdrop to the power of the waterfall, and it was audible in every gorgeous flowing bar.” Keith Bruce, The Herald **** |

| 25-28 November 2010 | Flute Retreat, Prussia Cove, Cornwall with Atarah Ben-Tovim, Gillian Poznansky and Mark Tanner. 25th-28th November 2010 This long weekend course will appeal to flautists wishing to expand on their repertoire and expertise in performing. Run by three highly experienced performers and educators - Atarah Ben-Tovim, Gillian Poznansky and Mark Tanner - this residential course will run from Thursday 25th November (lunch) to Sunday 28th (closing with lunch). Please note that this is a course for adults only. An option to stay on for a further day or two, at a modest additional charge for residency, is offered. There will be group sessions, mini-lectures and optional leisure activities to help build an interesting and valuble experience, but the main thrust of the course will be playing through repertoire under the guidance of professional players. Pianist Mark Tanner will be on hand, and this will provide a great opportunity to rehearse music that you've been itching to play through. Prussia Cove, on the western tip of rugged Cornwall, is the perfect backdrop for such an occasion (indeed there have been many successful string courses at this venue). The ambience of the place and its stunning scenary make it the perfect location to conduct an adult residential course of this sort. There may be an opportunity for youngsters to attend for tuition, at one or two points during the weekend. Flautists over the age of 18 are invited to apply.
