The Fantasies are a wonderful framework for improvisation and expression.
Telemann was quite a personality; a survivor of tragedy, incredibly prolific, cosmopolitan and a pioneer of printing techniques and composers rights - all very ahead of his time. Much has happened to the flute and music over 300 years but I think Telemann would embrace the change and welcome the modern flute and all it has to offer.
Profits will go to Palmusic.org.uk, a UK charity supporting the ESNCM ( Palestinian Music Conservatory ) and its current efforts to take music to children in camps across Palestine.

This ecumenical flute retreat will combine the elements of a classic spiritual retreat - conferences, time for personal and community prayer – with an opportunity to explore how music can be a path to God. There will be plenty of time to enjoy playing the flute both in a group, as a solo player and during the liturgy.
It is particularly suitable for adult players (18+) of grade 4+ ability who use their flute within Christian worship, or for flautists who would like to combine the spiritual and musical dimensions of a flute retreat. Each one can work out his or her own balance between the two dimensions.
The retreat will take place at the Monastery of Our Lady of Hyning, Warton Carnforth, Lancashire, which is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty and has a large and comfortable guest house. 12 en-suite bedrooms are available (with the possibility of non-playing companions sharing). Scottish International Flute Summer School returns to Strathallan School, Perthshire, from 19–25 July 2026. Established in 1996, the course is open to flautists aged 16+ and welcomes advanced students, emerging professionals and experienced adult players looking for an inspiring week of focussed music-making.
Participants can choose from three course options (Intensive, Advanced and a midweek Short Course) and will enjoy individual lessons with the tutor team alongside a varied programme of classes and workshops. The week includes technique and repertoire sessions, masterclasses, performance opportunities, tutor recitals, and time for practice and networking in a friendly residential setting.

For our 2026 retreat we are heading to the beautiful St Marks Stays in Cautley near Sedbergh in Cumbria.
